Research

We apply fresh thinking and rigorous methods to complex challenges, producing clear insights that inform decisions, drive innovation and enable organisations to create lasting, positive impact.

SEND in schools

We work with schools, local authorities, integrated care boards and government departments to understand how to support children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities in mainstream schools. Our research helps improve provision, inform policy, and ensure that all pupils can thrive.

Addressing under-representation

Social inclusion is the golden thread that runs through our work. We support organisations to address inequality and boost participation for underrepresented groups. Our work spans education, employment and sport, informing policy and practice to promote fairer access, better outcomes and greater diversity across sectors.

School workforce

We research and evaluate the school workforce, from how they are recruited, deployed and developed through to retained and rewarded. We provide insight into recruitment incentives, workforce models, subject and non-subject specific CPD, leadership development and workload.

System change

We help clients understand how programmes can drive sustainable change by shifting the conditions that shape system behaviour. By exploring how actors, policies and structures interact, we support organisations to focus resources and design approaches for meaningful transformation

Physical activity and participation

We assess programmes and policies that aim to increase physical activity and reduce inequalities in participation. Our evaluations help organisations understand what works to support healthier, more active communities.

Leadership and volunteering

We research leadership development and the role of volunteers in creating positive social change. Our work helps organisations build capacity, improve volunteer experiences, and strengthen community impact.

Adult learning and skills

We investigate how adult education and skills training can support employment, inclusion, and personal development. Our work informs national and local policy, ensuring that adult learning meets the needs of individuals and the economy.

STEM

We evaluate interventions and programmes designed to increase take-up and attainment in STEM subjects among target groups targeted at both teachers and pupils, from curriculum resources, extra-curricular and enrichment activity to school partnerships, industry sponsors and CPD.

Multiple disadvantage

We work across sectors to understand and address the complex needs of people facing multiple disadvantage, including homelessness, mental ill-health, substance misuse, offending and domestic violence. Our research supports integrated, person-centred approaches to tackling entrenched inequalities.
